Cannes Film Festival (past)

as this year's Cannes Film Festival hasn't finished so far, i want to show you some glamourous and impressive pictures from the past years..

LOVERS IN THE LIMELIGHT
Forget the Brads and Angelinas of today – old-school stars like Warren Beatty and Natalie Wood (here at the 1962 festival) were true style icons. TRIVIA: Wood and Beatty shared the fi rst-ever Hollywood French kiss in Splendor In The Grass in 1961.

EXCESS BAGGAGE IS HOW MUCH?
British actress Janette Scott inspects her wardrobe and luggage, prior to her departure for the 1954 Cannes Film Festival. Now that’s what we call a holiday wardrobe! TRIVIA: Scott’s role in the 1962 fi lm The Day of the Triffi ds gets a mention in Science Fiction/Double Feature, the opening song of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

SNAP HAPPY
Photographers crowd onto rocks in the water to shoot stars at the 1962 Cannes Film Festival. TRIVIA: The word “paparazzi” comes from the 1960 Federico Fellini movie, La Dolce Vita. It was the name of a photographer in the fi lm – and apparently also means a buzzing insect!

Blonde Bomshell

BLONDE BOMBSHELL
Britain’s answer to Marilyn Monroe, Diana Dors rests on a balcony overlooking Cannes beach during the 1956 festival – the year she was dubbed the “Queen of Cannes”. TRIVIA: Dors’s real name was Diana Fluck: “They asked me to change my name. I suppose they were afraid that if my real name Diana Fluck was in lights and one of the lights blew…”

Strike a pose

STRIKE A POSE
Polish-born French actress Bella Darvi poses in front of the Carlton Hotel during the 1956 Cannes Film Festival. TRIVIA: Darvi played a Babylonian courtesan in 1954’s The Egyptian, a sword-and-sandal epic. Marlon Brando was slated to star in the fi lm, but allegedly backed out because he couldn’t stand Darvi!
